Similar to the apple, a guava can be a very good thirst quencher in hot temperatures. The fruit contains edible seeds, and depending on the variety / ripeness the pulp may taste sour or sweet, as the inside differs from white to pink.
Guava leaves can be used as an herbal tea (in Brazil called chá de folha de Goiabeira: Guava leaf tea. An infusion of leaves and Guava fruit), and an extract can be used as a supplement. Even the wood has a function, it is used for meat smoking among barbecue lovers trough Central America and the USA.
Because of the high level op pectin, the Red Guava is also used for jelly’s, jams and marmalades such as Colombian ‘Bocadillo’ and Brazilian ‘Goiabada’.
Did you know: The (honey like) nectar inside of the Guave plant is used to make a milk-white alcoholic drink called ‘Pulque de guava’. A very popular beverage, in Mexico amongst others.
Some benefits of the Guave:
Avoid drinking water after fruits with high water content. As this can hinder the absorption of nutrients.
